February 2025 will mark the 80th anniversary of the birth of composer and musician Edward Vesala.
Tavastia Club will celebrate the anniversary on March 18 with a concert evening that will highlight Vesala's artistic personality and his unique musical legacy.
Edward Vesala (1945–1999) was a visionary percussionist, composer and bandleader who combined elements of jazz, rock, classical music, folk music and improvisation in his works. His music remains a cornerstone of European jazz and Finnish music. In the concert, Vesala's compositions will come to life, performed by members of the original Sound & Fury band and musicians of the younger generation.
Tapani Rinne, one of the founding members of the group, will also perform an improvisational and meditative solo performance that highlights Vesala's legacy and its significance as part of a broader creative continuum.
As the evening's special performer will be Vesala's youth rock band Apollo, one of the finnish pioneer bands combining early heavier rock & blues styles of
Led Zeppelin, Deep Purple and of Canned Heat, Butterfield Blues Band - with its original members (Harri Saksala, Eero Lupari, Holle Holopainen), reinforced by drummer Santeri Saksala.
